Dry Needling
Physiotherapy
Dry needling is a therapeutic technique gaining popularity in the realm of physical therapy and pain management. It involves the insertion of thin needles into trigger points within muscles, tendons, ligaments, or near nerves, with the aim of relieving pain and improving function. Despite its name, dry needling doesn’t involve injecting medication or substances into the body, hence the term “dry.” Instead, it relies on the mechanical stimulation of tissues to produce therapeutic effects.
Dry needling targets myofascial trigger points, which are hyperirritable spots within muscles associated with palpable nodules or bands. These trigger points often contribute to local and referred pain, muscle tension, and restricted range of motion. By inserting a needle directly into these trigger points, dry needling aims to deactivate them, leading to pain relief and improved muscle function.
